How this course will benefit you and your practice?

  • A safe framework to work with TRAUMA

    This course provides a framework in which to use trauma skills safety. It provides the learning conditions to integrate theory and skills into your practice to help your clients regulate their nervous system and improve their quality of life.

  • Skills to assess clients

    This course will equip you with the skills to assess clients for suitability of working in a trauma-informed way and to inform your use of skills with your clients. It will also provide the foundations for safe and ethical trauma practice.

  • A Qualification, Trauma-informed practitioner.

    Upon successful completion of the program, you may identify yourself as a trauma-informed practitioner. This privilege is contingent upon maintaining regular supervision with a trauma-informed supervisor and staying current with your continuing professional development (CPD) hours. This demonstrates your commitment to providing ethical and effective services to individuals who have experienced trauma.

Trauma research, theory and practice is now underpinning the work we do as therapists and it is vital for counsellors to have an in depth understanding of trauma along with an experiential knowledge of somatics and body-mind theory which supports the bottom-up work to trauma recovery.

  • This advanced certificate brings theory and cutting-edge trauma research and practice within the growing field of post-traumatic growth and somatic psychology. It will both deepen and broaden your work with clients supporting you to assess and work with a range of complex client presentations, working safely and effectively.

  • Within this course there will be more theory, particularly around complex trauma, skills practice, discussion groups and supervision to support you to integrate somatic trauma practice into your client work.

  • Supervision space – there will be supervision time on each day of this weekend to support integration of the theory & skills into your client work. You will learn from each other and will have the opportunity to present a client.

  • The course will be validated by a Written Assignment: 2500 – 4000 words. This assignment should show your understanding of trauma work and how you have incorporated it into your practice using examples from your client work .

  • The course will be delivered online via zoom on the 28-30th of April, 9 & 10th of June and Saturday 8th of July 2023.

  • 1-hour induction meeting for course orientation and to ask any questions on the 3rd of April, 6 to 7pm uk time

  • The program offers 30 hours of training on Zoom from April to July 2023

  • The course will be limited to 35 participants.

  • The cost of the training is £795. It includes the course fees, the video of the sessions and all the resources for the course .

Opportunities & Expectations

  • Ongoing support

    There will be an opportunity to join a monthly Reflective Practice Group, facilitated by Kate, to continue to integrate trauma theory and skills into your practice and continue to consolidate your learning. This will take place on the last Friday morning of every month 10-12pm (except holiday time).

  • Pre-reading

  • Writing Assignment

    Case study 2500 – 4000 words: Draft/summary to submit by 9th June & for group discussion. Final Submission 24th June.

Who can apply & prerequisite’s

  • Therapy

    To have completed a minimum of 40 hours personal therapy

  • Personal work

    To have worked through your own trauma sufficiently to undertake a course of this nature

  • Responsibilities & External Support

    To have the capacity to take responsibility for own safety and capacity to take responsibility for own reactions, experiences and feelings. To have sufficient external support and to be prepared to work through anything that arises during the training in supervision or personal therapy.

  • NOTE

    Please note that this course is a professional training and not to process your own trauma or past. Due to the personal development aspect of the course it’s not unusual for past traumas to get stirred.

  • It’s important that you are able to stabilise yourself during the training and to take personal material into your own therapy. It’s important that your own material doesn’t interfere with your learning and the learning of the group so having sufficient support in place is vital.

  • We are opening registration for coaches and care givers for the Advance certificate in Somatic Trauma Theory & Skill.   • You will receive handouts and powerpoint slides throughout the training, along with some audio & video recordings of phase 1 resources.

  • A reading list will be provided upon acceptance onto the course.

  • All the session will be recorded and accessible after the course

Additional information

  • It’s important that the learning environment is safe for you and your group. Should the material of the course impact you to the point where your learning & that of the group is impacted then your tutor will arrange a tutorial with you. In exceptional circumstances, for your safety, you may be withdrawn from the course.

  • Please be aware that the case study is due on the submission deadline. Any outstanding work after the course is finished will incur a marking fee of £40 an hour.
