More information about the Level 5 Award

Trauma research, theory and practice is now underpinning the work we do as therapists and it is vital for counsellors to have an in depth understanding of trauma along with an experiential knowledge of somatics and body-mind theory which supports the bottom-up work to trauma recovery.

  • This Level 5 Award brings theory and cutting-edge trauma research and practice within the growing field of post-traumatic growth and somatic psychology. It will both deepen and broaden your work with clients supporting you to assess and work with a range of complex client presentations, working safely and effectively.

  • Within this course there will be more theory, particularly around complex trauma, skills practice, discussion and time with the group to support you to integrate somatic trauma practice into your client work.

  • The course will be validated by a Written Assignment: 5000 – 6000 words. This assignment should show your understanding of trauma work and how you have incorporated it into your practice using examples from your client work .

This assignment, totaling 5000-6000 words, seeks a comprehensive showcase of your professional growth. We expect a seamlessly integrated case study, reflections on personal development, and insights into supervision. Demonstrate the practical application of somatic trauma principles, emphasizing ethical practices, safe conduct, and cultural awareness. Each training session should also be succinctly journaled, providing a concise record of your evolving understanding. This assessment gauges not just theoretical knowledge but your ability to apply it effectively in real-world therapeutic scenarios.

  • Question and Answer

This training program has been designed Kate Williams, and she will actively participate in a question-and-answer session with the group during the concluding stage of the training session.

Our training strongly emphasizes the practical application of skills and collaborative learning. You can expect to engage in skill practice, participate in triad sessions, and connect with peers during the training, all designed to enhance your learning experience.

  • Skills Practice: This course is the bridge between theory and real-world application. You should be well-prepared for skill practice sessions, where you can put your knowledge into practical use.

  • Triad Sessions: Collaborate with your peers in triad groups, actively engaging in discussions to exchange ideas and insights.

  • Peer Group Time: We invite students to connect with their peers to discuss the training, practice, and provide mutual support in the writing process.
